Dunvegan Winter Carnival 2010 introduces “Neigh” Rides and the Snollyball Open.
 |
|
Sponsored by Louise Vininsky and Mike Ferron of Dunvegan, Winter Pony Rides are making their first appearance at the 2010 Carnival. |
This year’s DRA Winter Carnival will be held on Saturday, February 6. Kicking off the one-day event will be an all-you-can-eat Buffet Breakfast from 8:00 to 10:00 AM at the DRA Hall, 19053 County Road 24. Featuring crispy bacon, succulent sausages, fluffy scrambled eggs, and stacks of flapjacks drenched in real maple syrup, the meal is a real bargain at only $7.50 (children 5 to 12 – $3.00). This will be followed by the outdoor portion of the Carnival – held one kilometer east of the village at the home of James Joyce and Terry Sweitzer (19314 County Rd. 24).
Carnival 2010 will see the introduction of two new events. The first is Winter Pony Rides from Ken & Lynda Townsend’s Town & Country Pony Rides. Sponsored by Louise Vininsky and Mike Ferron of Dunvegan, the rides will be available from 12:00 to 2:30 on a first-come, first-served basis. The second is open-invitation game of Snollyball or snow volleyball. Open to players of all ages, the game will get under way at ___ PM in the field just east of the Dunvegan Post Office.
Also aimed at the younger crowd is our popular Backwoods Scavenger Hunt with prizes for everyone who participates. Organizers, Kim Raymond and Stephanie Tougas, report that this year’s theme will be an unusual combination of winter sports and nursery rhymes.
Assuming the weather co-operates, carnival goers will also be able to enjoy Fresh-Air Skating on the frozen pond and Sliding & Tobogganing down the hill on to the pond ice.
As a break from the outdoors, everyone is welcome to warm up by the wood cook stove and enjoy a bowl of Terry’s home-made soup and oven-fresh rolls. All of the outdoor activities and refreshments are FREE... and everyone is welcome.
